Comfort zone for Hodnet in opener

FC Hodnet’s first County League game brought a convincing 3-1 home win over Brown Clee.

After early chances for Tom Minshall and Tom Beecham, Hodnet took the lead after 27 minutes when a Martin Lalley free kick was volleyed home by Beecham from six yards out.

A second came five minutes later, when Cameron Knight’s run again found Beecham who mesmerised the Clee defence with a mazy solo run before beating the keeper with some aplomb, this time from eight yards.

Right on half-time, Brown Clee were unfortunate
with a free-kick that hit Andrew Frost's post but the
first half ended with Hodnet still two goals to the good.

In the second half, it was Brown Clee who went close first on 61 minutes when a shot flashed just wide of Frost's post.

Six minutes later, a Tom Minshall flick-on saw the
persistent Ross Ramuite beat the offside trap and two defenders to finish coolly past the keeper for 3-0.

Drama was to follow on 83 minutes after several chances to increase the lead were spurned when Andy Baker palmed away a Brown Clee shot on goal and was sent off.

Phil Brick scored from the resulting penalty kick but it could not prevent Hodnet from securing their first County League win of the season.

FC Hodnet are at home tomorrow against Wrockwardine Wood with a 3pm kick-off, followed by an away game at Meole Brace next Wednesday, kick-off 6.30pm.

It takes place at the Church Road ground in Meole Brace village and your support is always welcome.
