Rugby team raing to go
Market Drayton Rugby Club are in training for the new season and are on the lookout for anyone interested in joining the side.
The club have been training throughout the summer on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30pm at Greenfields Sports Centre.
Numbers attending training vary between 12 and 22 (increasing steadily as the season approaches), which is a healthy figure.
But new players are always welcome, whether experienced or interested in taking up the game for the first time.
Anyone can attend training and players will be made to feel very welcome.
The club have a full fixture list, commencing with two training games – the first of which is this weekend against Newcastle.
The side then host Telford on Saturday 23 August, both at Greenfields with a 3pm kick off.
The prime aims of these games are to develop match fitness and also adjust to the numerous law changes being introduced for the new season.
It is hoped that these changes will will encourage a more open, spectator- friendly style of play.
In addition to first team fixtures, the club are also running a second fifteen this season.
This will increase competition for places and ensure that all players are guaranteed a game.
The club also has an active social calendar.
