Drayton suffering

Market Drayton Cricket Club’s problems on and off the field are unrelenting.

While yet more plans to forge a financial lifeline fell foul of the planners, their hopes of rebuilding a pretty disastrous FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire League season were dashed by Worfield.

Batting first, Drayton started slowly. Richard Coggins (16) and Will Evans (21) consolidated but with three players out for a duck, it was left to Jesse Thompstone and Nick Reed torescue the team.

Thompstone scored an excellent 72, including one huge six and skipper Reed was 38 not out Drayton reached 166-8 off their 45 overs.

Worfield started well and, led by their professional M. Singh (57 not out) reached their target for the loss of six wickets.

Thompstone, Reed and Richard Davies each took two wickets. Drayton received six points and the match was sponsored by Laurence Sidwell.

In division five, Market Drayton 2nd XI played Overton-on-Dee, who scored 214-6. Darren Kent and Chris Edwards both took two wickets and George Dees and Chad Roberts one each.

Drayton reached 136-7 for a losing draw with handy scores from Kent (35), Dees (20), Dorian Richardson (18), Chad Roberts (15) and James Joule (14).
Too strong

Market Drayton Under-17s found top-of- the-table Betley too strong and lost by 60 runs, scoing 95 after Betley posted 155-4.

Tom Mulholland took two wickets, Charlotte Walsh and Josh Langsley one apiece. Langsley and Mulholland each scored 18, James Joule 11 and Dan Storey 10 not out.
