Grove's outstanding GCSE results

Year 11 students at the Grove School have followed their A level counterparts with some outstanding results in this year’s GCSE exams.

More than 50 per cent of youngsters achieved the highest A* to C grades for the third year running and with more results still to come in, the school is
expecting that figure to increase.

Teachers were also delighted with the news that more than 20 per cent of students secured between 10 and 14 higher grade passes.

Headteacher Jane Radbourne said: “I am delighted with these students and the group getting those top grades in particular, with the majority of them being A*s, As and Bs.

“Many students at the Grove also study for a wide range of work-related qualifications, either at college or through work-based courses provided by local organisations.

“This year, all of them have achieved passes at level one or two and we would say well done to all of them.

“I would also like to thank all students for their hard work throughout the year, as well as their parents for their support and my colleagues for their commitment and dedication.”

This year’s top performers include George Atkinson, 16, from Cheshire who achieved 9 A* passes and 4 As out of 14 subjects, including English literature, business studies and law.

Jessamyn Wilde, 16, from Cheswardine, secured 4 A* grades and 7 As in subjects such as geography, religious studies and English.

Harley Wickstead, 16, from Market Drayton, took exams in 11 subjects and achieved an A* and four As.

She and Jessamyn are staying at the Grove to do their A levels, with both of them hoping to take up a career in medicine.

“I have done better than I expected in English and my parents are happy,” Harley said.

“The teachers at the Grove have been really helpful and when we have needed their help, they’ve been there.”

There was a double celebration for 16-year-old Melissa France from Market Drayton, who has combined her GCSE studies with singing lessons.

The former Carnival Queen got an A* in drama, as well as a distinction in a singing exam she took last month.

“I had to sing three songs and perform them in front of the examiners so I am really pleased,” Melissa said.

“I like my drama and my English – they are my favourites so I want to do something with that.

“My parents will be quite pleased with it as well.”
