Vandal attack part of 'ongoing feud' claim

Police in Market Drayton are appealing for witnesses after the town’s only disabled taxi was vandalised.

The blue Peugeot Eurobus taxi, which is owned by Ray’s Taxis, was smashed when a house brick was thrown through the windscreen in broad daylight on Shrewsbury Road.

The incident took place just before 5pm on Sunday, August 17.

The taxi is the only one in the town with disabled access and had to be taken off road for a number of days until it was repaired.

Ray Jones, of Ray’s Taxis, said he believed the attack was part of an on-going feud he was part of.

He said: “Recently I helped out a friend who had a problem and now as a consequence somebody has taken a personal vendetta against me.

“The incident has caused me great distress and cost me nearly £300 with insurance payments and a loss of earnings.

“It also meant that any disabled person in the town who wanted a taxi had to suffer.

“I’ve got the disability services contract, the Woodcroft Nursing Home contract and the Age Concern contract.

“If anyone does want a taxi then they can't have it, they don't have the option now of going out.

“I’ve been established in the town for 29 years now and it's the first time I've ever known anything like this

happen,” he said.

Constable Dave Timmins, who is investigating the incident, said: “This happened in broad daylight on a busy town road and we believe a number of people may have seen it happen.

“Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact me at Market Drayton Police Station on 08457 444888. Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
