The family of a man who was seriously injured after being hit by a bull two weeks ago have thanked medical staff and well-wishers.
Speaking exclusively to the Advertiser, Geoff Swinnerton said that his father, John, was making a good recovery in hospital.
The 70-year-old suffered 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung after he was struck by the animal at a farm in Market Drayton.
County Air Ambulance crews carried out emergency surgical treatment before he was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
“Dad came out of intensive care three and a half days ago and he has amazed everybody with his continued improvement,” Geoff said.
“There is talk that he may be home next week, more through his own eagerness to get back.
“Nobody knows what happened because Dad can’t remember so it wouldn’t be fair for me to comment.
“He is in good spirits but he has been in a lot of pain.”
As well as broken ribs and a collapsed lung, Mr Swinnerton also suffered a fractured sternum, bone and hand fractures and had to have his spleen removed.
“He was pretty much black and blue,” Geoff said.
“He is keen to get home from hospital as it’s not the type of environment he is used to being in.
“Dad has been handling cattle all his life and farming is his passion.
“He is also a very keen horse racing fan and he can’t wait to get back to it, as well as the farming.
“We are extremely grateful to Shropshire County Air Ambulance and the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for all their help.
"Dad and his family would also like to thank everybody for their warm wishes, cards and gifts.”
