Taste of the Town weekend.

Next weekend promises to be a busy and exciting one in and around Market Drayton with a number of events taking place.

The Taste of the Town Exhibition and Market will be held at a number of town centre venues, including the Festival Drayton Centre, next Saturday.

The aim of the event is to promote the town and surrounding countryside through food produced here and the people who live here.

It plans to “celebrate life in a modern rural community” through a variety of stalls and activities that will be staged in Cheshire Street and Frogmore Road.

A number of local business have agreed to take part, including Muller Dairies and Pork Farms who will both be having stalls in the market.

Jeff Hopkins, chairman of the Taste of the Town Company, said: “The Taste of the Town Exhibition and Market next Saturday will focus on the link between the town and the surrounding countryside.

“We will also be showcasing the diversity of local businesses and organisations. In the past, the market was the meeting place and the town was at the heart of our rural community. Times change and many people have become disconnected from the land and from each other.”

Other events taking place during the day include healthy living demonstrations, food tasting sessions, live music and exhibitions by voluntary groups in Market Drayton.

“We want to encourage people to visit local farms and enjoy the walks and events in the villages as well as in the town,” Jeff said.

“The aim of the event is to draw in visitors and provide an opportunity for people who live and work in the area to learn what is happening in Drayton and to encourage cooperation between groups and individuals. We live in a modern rural community which is moving forward, as well as going back to our roots.”
