Friends are killed in road smash

TWO young friends have been killed in an horrific car crash in north Shropshire.

Gareth Tyson, of Hodnet, and Jack Speight, of Market Drayton, died at the scene of the accident near Peplow on Monday night.

The men, who were both in their early 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene after the black Volkswagen Golf they were in left the A442 and ploughed into trees at about 10.40pm.

Police believe the driver of the car lost control while overtaking and swerved to avoid another vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

Sergeant Nigel Webster, the senior investigating officer, said the main road was closed while the emergency services worked at the scene overnight.

“Several witnesses have already assisted the police but we are appealing to anyone else who either saw the collision or the circumstances leading up to it, to please contact Shrewsbury police station on 101 as a matter of urgency,” he said.

Flowers and pictures have been left at the scene.
