The new year has started tragically for a Loggerheads family after a teenager died in a car crash travelling home from college.
Rebecca Canning, 18, died when her car crashed after leaving the southbound carriageway of the A51 between Nantwich and Woore on Tuesday shortly before 4pm.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene but were unable to save the teenager who suffered fatal injuries.
Her parents, John and Susan Canning, described Rebecca as a hard-working daughter who would be dearly missed by her sister Karen, brother Michael, relatives and friends.
Mrs Canning said: “Rebecca was a typical girl who loved the colour pink, hair, beauty and things like doing her nails.
“She wanted to work on a cruise ship and she was planning to go on her first date this Saturday.”
Rebecca was studying beauty therapy at South Cheshire College in Crewe having previously completed a two-year course in hairdressing.
Her tutor and beauty therapy lecturer Amanda Ashwin said: “Becky was a truly inspirational member of our group.
“She was always the first to volunteer advice and guidance to any of her peers and she was very well-liked within the group.
“She was a valuable asset to the department and will be sadly missed by all her friends within the college, especially the hair and beauty team.
“We will always remember her and Becky will always be in our thoughts.”
Students and staff at the college are dedicating their annual hair and beauty competition on January 24 to Rebecca’s memory.
College principal Peter Swift said: “Everyone at South Cheshire College was extremely sad to hear the tragic news about Rebecca.
“She was a very popular student who will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
Cheshire Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Sergeant Helen Potter or Constable Tony Hayhurst on 01244 612767.
