Market Drayton is gearing up for its Christmas Farmers’ Market that is taking place this Sunday.
Organisers have labelled the event a Christmas Extravaganza and have promised more choice to Market Drayton residents than ever before.
More than 70 stalls will be on hand selling food, drink, craft and other gift items.
Alongside regular stallholders such as Fordhall Farm and Styche Hall Farm Fayre, there will be some new producers demonstrating Indian and Thai cooking to visitors.
Other attractions include live music from Market Drayton-based Musicland and the Salopian Brass Band, a birds of prey display, face painting, a children’s carousel, swing boats and entertainer Steve Chappie. One of the stalls on show includes a gift stand put together by Macmillan Cancer Support where children of all ages can receive a parcel with a small gift for Christmas.
Lynda Verrill, Macmillan Cancer Support committee member, said: “The Market Drayton Chamber of Trade have given me 200 parcels that were left over after Father Christmas came to the town last year.
“Along with my friends we’ve managed to amass another 70 and we’re hoping to get more in time for Sunday.
“We have lots of different gifts for children of all ages, it might be a book, CD or even some lipstick for teenage girls.
“The parcels only cost £1 and are full of lots of nice things.”
Other stall highlights include one put together by the Children’s Society. Cards and calendars will be on sale with scenes from churches in the Hodnet Deanery. Customers can also help make a cake and stir the mixture and make a wish for 50p.
The market will run from 10am until 4pm on Cheshire Street.
