Pre-schoolers settle into new classroom

sd3522877wb26pine.jpgYoungsters at a Loggerheads pre-school have been happily getting used to the surroundings of their new classroom.

A new purpose-built classroom with specially adapted kitchen and toilet facilities for children has been provided for at Pinewood Pre-School with help from Madeley Community Learning Partnership.

The pre-school is based at Hugo Meynell Primary School and has three staff who supervise around 30 children over two separate sessions, five days a week.

Pre-school leader Sue Adams said: “The Community Learning Partnership was looking for a place at the school where they could have a room for the community.

“They looked round and decided that our old classroom would be an ideal place, but they were also prepared to find a new room for us.

“We were very excited and as the day got nearer to us moving in, we were thinking about all the things we were going to do.

“We moved in at Easter and thought there would be a few tears at the first, but the children recognised all the old toys and it’s as if they’ve been here all the time.”

The classroom has been converted from a boys’ changing room and shower block, with an outdoor learning area added for children to do gardening and other activities outside.

Sue said: “It’s just such a fantastic space that we have now because before, we were stuck in the one room but now we have our own self-contained kitchen and all the toilets have been fitted at a good height for the children.

“It’s made a fantastic difference and it means the children are more independent and they can go to the toilet on their own.

“The parents think it’s fantastic and one of them has put in a flower bed with a few vegetable and herbs which gives the children a chance to do a bit of gardening and gets them learning about plants and insects as well.”

“It’s been a long time waiting for this but now we want people to know that we’re here and that we take children, not just from Ashley and Loggerheads, but from other areas as well.”
