A showcase of youth groups in Market Drayton is promised by the town’s Lions Club at its annual Community Fun Day next weekend.
The free event takes place on Little
Drayton Village Green in Buntingsdale Road on June 19 from 11.30am till 4.30pm with activities for all ages.
There will be a marching demonstration by the Market Drayton Air Cadets Squadron, a performance by youngsters from Musicland and stalls run by the town’s Guides, Scouts and Explorers groups.
Visitors can also watch a puppet show by Market Drayton Methodist Church, folk music by Forlorn Hope, martial arts demonstrations and a funfair for young children.
Lions Club president Renee Gunn said: “This is the third year we’re actually doing a Fun Day as we want to show the things that are happening in Market Drayton for young people.
“There’s so much in the town that a lot of young people don’t know about, so we’ve brought all the youth organisations together to say ‘this is what we’re achieving.’
“We’re also trying to create a community feeling and involve as many people as possible which is why we’ve added some additional attractions like the Mini Owners Club and Big Box Circus.”
The fun day will include judging for the Lions’ environmental drawing and photographic competitions that have taken place throughout schools in the town over the last two months.
Cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to each of the winners in four age groups, with the overall winners in both competitions also earning a £100 donation each for their school.
Renee said: “We want to encourage people to come along, have a nice family day out and enjoy themselves because there are quite a few things for teenagers and young children.”
