A Cheswardine woman fighting a gruelling battle with cancer is set to turn heads with a new outrageous hairstyle.
Maggie Bowd, will begin chemotherapy on Monday to treat the disease which now sits on her liver.
Maggie has previously fought the condition twice before and each time received “fantastic” help and support from The Lingen Davies Cancer Centre in Shrewsbury.
The centre is currently trying to raise funds for a new building to improve facilities for cancer sufferers and Maggie said she wanted to give something back for all their help.
She said: “Back in In 2006 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I had to have chemotherapy. I was given lots of support from the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre where the staff were absolutely amazing.
“The cancer came back almost a year and a half later in my bones and I had to have radiotherapy treatment.
“The staff at Lingen Davies were again fantastic so I thought this time I would dye my hair lots of different colours to try and raise some money to help them with their campaign.
“I usually get my hair cut at Francescos and they offered to cut and colour my hair for free. They have been fantastic and I’m very grateful to them because by giving me a free cut I will be able to raise more money.”
Maggie, who has four children, said she is now ready to fight the condition once again. “It’s a very scary time when you’re told you have cancer but Lingen Davies are there to help explain everything and give support so colouring my hair is my way of giving something back.
“They are trying to add en-suite facilities and also build an extension to the chemotherapy day centre which is where I go. It really is a fantastic cause and does a lot of excellent work for people with cancer and their families.”
Maggie is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the appeal. You can sponsor her by visiting www.justgiving.com/lingendavies and searching for her page - Maggie Bowd. Sponsorship forms are also in Sherwood Wholefoods and Francesco Hairdressers on Cheshire Street and in the Red Lion pub in Cheswardine.
