Fine ales and good music were on the menu at a Hinstock pub which held a special event over the Easter weekend.
Hundreds of visitors flocked to the village for this year’s Hinstock Beer Festival, organised by staff at the Falcon Inn.
People sampled a variety of beers and ciders, including some with a raspberry and cinnamon flavour, and were entertained by music from folk and roots duo Hickman and Quinn, as well as Hinstock teenage rock band Arcade Parade.
Visitors also enjoyed a Caribbean barbecue, bouncy castle for children and a family treasure hunt on Easter Monday to raise money for a summer planting project by Hinstock Village Initiative.
Falcon Inn manager Ben Freakley said: “The Beer Festival went really well and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.
“There were plenty of beers to sample, Hickman and Quinn went down really well and Arcade Parade, a young band from the village whose members are aged between 12 and 15, was pretty good.
“We had about a thousand people who came over the weekend, a lot of people came to the Caribbean barbecue last Saturday and plenty of villagers came out and supported the treasure hunt on Monday.
“The festival was something that other people had done before and we thought we’d keep it going.
“We did a similar event last August which was put together at the last minute so it wasn’t as big a success as this one was.”
More than 100 people went on the treasure hunt which was won by Carolyn Mousdale from Hinstock, her five-year-old daughter Amber and Carolyn’s sister-in-law Ann Chambers from Worksop who was visiting Hinstock over Easter.
They won a hamper donated by the Village Initiative and Amber was presented with a trophy specially made by Hinstock potter Jeff Lomas.
Carolyn said: “We were very pleased and very surprised to win and my daughter was over the moon because she won an Easter egg as well.
“We had quite a few children with us so it was enjoyable and we got to know areas of the village that we didn’t know before.”
Eric Balchin from the Village Initiative said: “It was a super weekend and we hope it’s something that’s going to be repeated next year.”
