The Lions Club of Market Drayton held their 22nd annual Charter Lunch at the Tern Hill Hall Hotel on Sunday 28th March.
The guests of honour were the Mayor of Market Drayton Councillor Roy Aldcroft, and our District Governor Lion Frank Marnell.
Also present were Lion members and guests from 14 other Lion clubs, Alsager, Cheadle, Ironbridge, Leek, Newcastle, Newport, Stock on Trent, Stafford, Stone, Wrekin, Wrexham, Whitchurch, Vale of Llangollen and Yale Royal.
Lion President Renee Gunn proposed the toast to Lions International.
She thanked everyone for all their help and support over the past year and spoke of the lasting bonds of friendship that had formed and about the circle of friendship that forms when we help other people.
“I have found that wherever a Lion member goes either home or abroad there will always be a Lion to welcome you, ready and willing to make you feel like a long lost friend, to bring you into the circle of friendship.”
She reminded the other clubs that they would again need help on their Community Fun Day on the 19th June
District Governor Frank Marnell responded to the toast. He praised all the members of Market Drayton Lions for the work they had done over the past year in their community particularly the Fun Day, their involvement in national and international projects such as the Lions Eye Bus, and ongoing projects like spectacle collection and Message in a Bottle.
He thanked them for supporting other clubs. He said that only by working together can we make a real difference to people’s lives,
The Mayor of Market Drayton, Councillor Roy Aldcroft, thanked the Lions Club for all their work in the community, and abroad.
He spoke of the continuing cooperation between service organisations within Market Drayton working together for the good of the community.
The Lions Club meet at the Stafford Court Hotel on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
