Pancake Day was a community occasion in Market Drayton this week as the town’s Macmillan Cancer Support group held its annual pancake lunch.
Around 120 people attended the event at the Beacon Community Centre where they enjoyed a tasty selection of savoury and sweet pancakes, including coronation chicken and beef bolognese.
Beth Taylor of Smithfield Road, Market Drayton, who went with her daughter Alison and friends Bernard and Alisan Pearson, said: “It was lovely and the pancakes were absolutely delicious.
“It’s just an English tradition and Macmillan do a brilliant job every year with so many volunteers - it’s amazing.”
Pauline Orchard of Croft Way, Market Drayton, who shared a table with friends Win Bolton and Olga Miller, said: “It was nice seeing lots of friends and we were all supporting a good charity.
“It was wonderful and it always amazes me how the town supports it and goes on supporting it.”
The lunch has taken place for more than 15 years and this year’s event raised £830 for the cancer charity, with another £750 to come from Barclays Bank through matchfunding arranged by support group committee member Peter Dawson.
Committee chairman Sue Harrison said: “It went extremely well and it was a lovely, relaxing lunch where people could sit, chat and eat as many pancakes as they wanted.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to everybody for coming and supporting us because if it wasn’t for them, we couldn’t do it.”
The group will be having a St George’s Day lunch at Cheswardine Parish Hall on April 26 at 12.30pm.
Tickets are £12.50 and available from Sue Harrison on 01630 655678.
