Market Drayton’s Rotary Club held a collection last weekend in aid of the Haiti earthquake disaster.
The club held the collection in the town’s Morrisons supermarket on Saturday and raised a total of £2,969.
The money will be used to buy and send six shelter boxes to the region, which contain a large tent to house 10 people, as well as pots and pans and other equipment.
Rotary Club President, David Edwards, said: “I would like to thank Morrisons for giving us the opportunity to make the collection and the people of Market Drayton and the district for their generosity.”
Member, John Walgrove, said: “It went extremely well. We raised around about the £3,000 mark.
“Thanks to everyone concerned. It only took six hours to get that money, people were very generous.”
The club is continuing to raise money to help with the relief efforts.
Anyone who would like to make a contribution can take money to the Sport United shop in Shropshire Street where cheques made payable to Market Drayton Rotary Club Trust will also be accepted.
