The owners of a Market Drayton chip shop have praised staff after a glowing reference from a county environmental health inspector.
The inspector from Shropshire Council’s public protection service turned up unannounced two weeks ago at Pete’s Fish Bar in Shrewsbury Road to check on its standards of hygiene.
Owners Pete and Christina Yianna said they were pleased with the “fantastically good” report which highlighted the chip shop’s “good practices, levels of cleanliness and excellent standard throughout.”
Pete said: “We’ve been here just over eight years and the checks are done every 12 to 18 months.
“Everything was new when we took over the chip shop, but now we have quite a strict cleaning regime and that’s how we keep on top of it.
“We often get a good report but this one was fantastically good and it’s a good sign that we’ve not let things slip.
“The inspection officer said to us ‘I wish all the places I went to were like this’ and our staff are quite happy as well.”
The chip shop, which employs four people, is part of the Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) scheme run by the Food Standards Agency to promote better food hygiene in restaurants and takeaways.
Christina said: “Before we take someone on, we explain to them that it’s not just about serving food but keeping the shop clean as well. All of our staff take pride in keeping the place clean and tidy and to have someone serving you in a pleasant manner as well is good.
“It’s nice for people in Market Drayton to know that they can go somewhere for food and know with a 100 per cent guarantee that things are being done to a high standard.”
