A five-year-old Market Drayton girl is so fed up with the lack of play equipment at her nearest park - that she has pleaded with the council to improve facilities.
Market Drayton Infant School pupil Sasha Morgan-Taylor was so disappointed with Buntingsdale play area after visiting with her mum Lindsay and younger sister Freya that she put pen to paper and wrote to the Advertiser.
In her letter Sasha said: “I’m writing to find out when is anyone going to put some new swings and things on Buntingsdale Village Green by Christ Church?
“At the moment it is boring and very plain. A lick of paint would be good too. “
Shropshire Council in partnership with Market Drayton Town Council recently confirmed they are set to fund a new £50,000 play area on the site.
And Sasha’s mum, Lindsay, said a new park is urgently needed.
“Buntingsdale park is the nearest one for us to go to without having to put Fraya in the buggy or getting into the car,” she said.
“The last time we went there we just realised what a mess it was. I said to Sasha maybe we should write to the local paper, I didn’t really think she would want to take it up but when we got home she was really keen.
“It’s such a shame because it could be a really nice park but at the moment it’s drab and horrible.
“Who knows Sasha’s letter may spur some people into action as a lot of people would benefit if the park was tided up - children need these facilities.”
Market Drayton Town Councillor, Roger Hughes, confirmed a new park is on the way. He said: “Everything is in hand. Hopefully the park will be finished in time for the end of the financial year.”
