An Audlem nursing home has used its success in a national building design competition to support a south Cheshire hospice.
Corbrook Court won the Best Extension or Restoration category at the Pinders Design Awards in April and received £2,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.
The money was presented to representatives from St Luke’s Hospice, Winsford, in front of around 100 residents, staff and guests at a ceremony recently during the Audlem nursing home’s summer fete.
Work to extend Corbrook Court, which is run by Shrewsbury-based Morris Care, was carried out in October 2007 and judges praised architects and developers for maintaining the Edwardian style of the original building.
Morris Care chief executive Margaret Maudsley said: “We were absolutely delighted to achieve national recognition for our nursing home and we’re pleased to be making a donation to St Luke’s Hospice in support of the wonderful work that it does and the dedicated service it provides for the local community.
“As a care provider, St Luke’s has strong links with our nursing home so when we heard we’d won the award, they were an obvious choice to receive the prize money.”
Corbrook Court was built in 1903 and opened as a 21-bed nursing home 100 years later, with the multi-million pound extension in 2007 adding another 24 beds.
Nurse manager Andrea Heath added she was delighted with the award recognition.
She said: “It was a huge honour to have won the Pinders award and all the team at Corbrook Court were delighted.
“Our nursing home is a beautiful old building and Morris Care tried to keep the extension in the same style as the original site.
“They also ensured that the design and layout of the nursing home would meet every need of our residents and help make their lives as easy as possible.”
Siobhan Horton, director of clinical services at St Luke’s Hospice added: “We’re very grateful to Corbrook Court and Morris Care because, as a charity, most of our income comes through fundraising events and donations such as this.
“It is only with this support that we can continue to provide the special care we give to our residents and their families.”
