Parent gets swine flu

A Market Drayton parent has been confirmed as the first person in the area to contract swine flu in the same week that Shropshire was declared a hotspot for the illness.

Parents of children at Hodnet Primary School have been told the mother of a pupil at the school has confirmed swine flu.

In a letter handed out to parents staff said the pre-school, which is attached to the school, would be closed “due to the vulnerable age of the pupils,” but the school would remain open.

Bosses at Drayton Medical Practice say they have been inundated with calls from people concerned about the virus, but to date there have been no confirmed cases.

There have also been rumours that a number of Market Drayton Town footballers had contracted the disease.
