Star Wylie’s Manx TT joy

Drayton motorcyclist Ben Wylie entered the history books this week, scooping the prestigious Best Newcomer award at the famous Isle of Man TT.

Wylie finished all five races around the island’s infamous 38 mile course, averaging more than 120mph on his way to the title.

Wylie, competing in a Holland Racing Yamaha started the week with a storming practice lap, and never looked back.

He said: “I can honestly say it’s the best thing I have ever done.

“I have accomplished all my goals, and better.

“I have to thank the guys, Tony, Nathan, Mark, Allan and Ross, who professionally carried out all the work on the bikes, and kept the whole thing running so smoothly, so thank you”

After posting quick enough qualifying times to earn himself a race ride, Wylie continued to impress, transferring his practice runs into race pace.

And that despite suffering a dramaic foot injury during his last practice lap.

While on a quick run his foot jumped off the peg, during a bumpy section, and slid under the back wheel, while he was travelling at more than 100mph.

Ben managed to stay upright on the bike, and finished the lap.
